I can’t, but I wish I could

VOTE! If you’re an American citizen and registered then please go out and exercise your right to change the world tomorrow. As a Canadian living in the US for the last eight years (and with a Poli Sci degree on my wall) I have been riveted by the politics here and my fascination is only surpassed by my frustration that I can’t vote (or sit on a jury or get drafted, but I digress).

Cheers,

Chris

Heh. I feel the same way. I have to keep clear of the polling stations as I got heck for not registering to vote that only abated somewhat when I informed them I was Canadian and even then, I received the hairy eyeball of doubt. *g*

The last two elections didn’t have the same sense of fervor as this one does, IMHO.

    Your book and vote

To be able to vote and sit on jury duty is wonderful. But being drafted sucks. I am glad we no longer have the draft. I loved your book A Darkness Forged in Fire. Did Alwyn live to fight another day? Did Chayii grow or make a wooden leg for him? Did she have a thing for him? After all she has a rodent for a husband. I guess the most important question is when is book two coming out? This is the only place I could find to make a comment on your book. Keep up the good work.

Yes, I’m not overly disappointed I can’t be drafted. Honestly, if any country did try to draft me it would be a clear sign they’d lost the war and their minds.

Thanks, that’s great to hear. Without giving too much away I can tell you that Alwyn does indeed survive, although he’s not the same. Book II, The Light of Burning Shadows, will be out the end of June 2009 in the US. Not sure about the other markets yet.

That’s fantastic to hear I won’t have to wait *too* long to read the next book! I did not write the above message, but after just finishing A Darkness Forged in Fire, I eventually ended up here reading your LJ! I got my hands on the book through Simon and Schuster’s LJ- they did a book giveaway with it, where they send us the book in exchange for us to read it and tell them what we think. I think it’s a great system, as I’ve always loved discussing books- but unlike with my friends, I know they actually want to know my opinion!

Anyways, when I came upon your journal, I wanted to let you know I enjoyed the book and I’m looking forward to the next one. My biggest disappointment was the lack of a map. I’m a very visual person, and I’ve always loved having books where I can flip to a map and see where things are happening and how far away places are from each other, etc, particularly in the case of fantasy novels. From author bios on you, I can see that history plays a big part in your life and I loved feeling that history in the novel, as I have always enjoyed history myself. Your writing exudes a history- though you do not always spell out that history, the reader can feel that the characters and places have a history to them- and I feel a map would help to make that history more real to the audience.

Just my two cents. Great book nonetheless. Anyways, I’ve friended you- that way I’ll be sure to be reminded to snatch the second book up when it’s published!

I appreciate the kind words, thanks. History is indeed a passion/fascination/profession of mine. And you’re not the only one who has asked about a map so I may have to draw one up. I do have chunks and sections of maps now, but so much of it is in my head…hmmm, that’s probably not the best place for it.

          Cheers,

          Chris
