Hot chocolate and Shreddies are not, in point of fact, a match made in heaven

So I got the bright idea the other day to combine two of my favorite snacks into one. I’d already made a hot chocolate, and not just any hot chocolate either, but hot chocolate with peppermint for that extra holiday flare. But as I started to sip I realized I needed something to nibble on, and as I’m single I had to settle for a bowl of cereal. I poured myself a bowl of Shreddies (a Canadian breakfast cereal of little squares of woven whole wheat goodness) and then thinking one plus one equals a glorious hot snack on a cold, blustery day I poured my mug of peppermint hot chocolate into the bowl and voila, created glop. I somehow managed to turn two independently wonderful things into one unpalatable mess.

The upside to all this? I almost, but not quite, overflowed the toilet when I flushed it.

The other upside? No oven mitts were harmed in this kitchen disaster although several paper towels and one unfortunate dish towel weren’t so lucky.

I’m so glad the oven mitts were spared. I’m pretty sure you’re one pair away from being banned from using oven mitts for life.

But then the poor dish towels would suffer more, wouldn’t they?

My sweetie mixes Shreddies with a little bit of sugar-free syrup and either unsweetened cocoa powder or fit nutz (dehydrated peanuts).

This is her ‘sweet snack’ at night, though, there’s virtually no sugar.

Hope your next Shreddies adventure fares better.

Her Shreddie recipe sounds infinitely more edible than mine. I’m reverting back to cold milk for now until I gather up the courage to try again.

Have you tried the honey or vanilla flavored Shreddies? Vanilla doesn’t taste that great without milk, but with light vanilla soy milk, yum!

Anyways, all the best in the holidays.
        Cheers,
        Dave

I’ve only ever had regular Shreddies, but I will definitely have to try those other flavors! Thanks for the heads up.

          Cheers,

          Chris

I will try again, but I think I’ll start with smaller scale experiments like tossing a few Froot Loops in my hot chocolate and seeing what happens.

Perhaps it’s just finally the evolution of the male of the species…..afterall women have been able to walk, chew gum, do the shopping whilst reading the shopping list AND start planning the next day for our poor men since time began. And it’s EXHAUSTING!! Think I’ll run down the street and see a movie 😉

Wow, I say, wow. A reason to be rich. Most rich folks’ homes on TV look like a bunch of wasted, airy, post-modern space, but that’s retro-cool.
