I have some serious karma issues

I didn’t start out yesterday planning to pour over male model head shots, really, but you know how one thing leads to another…

Actually, my British editor emailed and said they were casting for the model on whom to base my main character for the cover. Why, I yelled, didn’t I choose a super model babe as a protagonist? But noooo, I had to go with a dude, so I wound up flipping through portfolios discussing stubble or no stubble, wide chin or narrow, dark or light hair, long or short hair, tanned or light, a few wrinkles or fresh-faced and more. In the end we settled on a great looking model who we all agreed will convey what we want for Konowa and I gained a whole new respect for casting directors. The artist will shoot the model next week then start on the artwork. This will be the first time I’ll have seen my main character illustrated so I’m really looking forward to seeing it.

FYI, turns out there are a lot of good looking blokes in the UK…just saying.

Damn you karma! Next book is all women, maybe cheerleaders by day, crime fighters by night.

Okay, I’m sorry, but your predicament gave me a good smile this morning!

And I am completely remiss in posting some book reviews, yours included, but I really enjoyed it and am very much looking forward to the next book! Can’t wait to see this new cover… see how close or different he looks from the Konowa I was picturing. 😀 How comes the next book?

Enjoy your schadenfreude while I try to forget I spent hours looking at male models and agonizing over having to choose just one – er, um, that doesn’t sound quite as manly as I intended.

Thanks. The Light of Burning Shadows will hit stores in North America mid-July. I’ll have it done in the next few weeks.

        Re: Iron Elves Saga…..

        Hi, V:

        Thanks for the kind words.

Struggling is, or is often, part of the process. As you’re writing in the SF&F realm I would highly recommend you check out the Online Writing Workshop at http://sff.onlinewritingworkshop.com/ They should have just about everything you’re looking for to both help you and encourage you. I started there nine years ago and found the site very useful.

        Cheers,

        Chris

Wow, sounds like being an internationally selling author is hard. Picking models for brand new covers, being forced to give input on what the cover will look like instead of ending up with something that looks like a Highlander romance novel–it’s a tough life, Chris. A hard knock life even. 😛

This is twice this week you made me laugh. You might be getting the hang of this shameless self promotion thing. Now you just need a bigger f-list. *g*

Tell me about it! And to think I came to this country with nothing but a suitcase and a dream…

Yeah, I kvetch a bit, but I love every minute of it.

The key is to be self-deprecating bordering on pathetic yet maintaining an air of dignity and genius all the while hiding mammoth doubts, fears and insecurities. Oh, and smile, always smile…to the bitter, bitter end… 🙂
