If you aren’t a fan of Star Trek and are unfamiliar with the Borg and their cubes of death then you probably don’t think this is nearly as humorous as I do. Of course, you could be a huge fan of Star Trek and know everything there is to know about the Borg and still not find this as humorous as I do in which case you’re wrong. Cubed laundry is universally funny.
My laundry has been assimilated. Fabric softner is futile.

Maybe if you wrapped Christmas lights around it.
I’m not religious, but I see what you’re getting at.
*grin* Love it! Will they put themselves away if you ask the Queen Borg to make it so?
Now there’s a nifty idea!
We will add your sartorial distinctiveness to our own!
We are amused 🙂
Best ass-whupping of a Borg Ship – One of the Strange New World anthologies, where Starfleet knew the Borg would one day come for the Guardian of Forever, so they moved the Horta onto the Forever Planet.
Borg ship landed. “We will add your distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is …”
Horta: *bursting up through the earth and into the ship* OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!
The question is, why don’t we ever see the laundry or washing day on any of the cubes….and do the Borg even shower? Ewww…Borg and Patrick Stewart in funky undies. Gross.
I think when the Borg get really dirty they just toss the funky Borg overboard and assimilate some springtime fresh new ones.
“We are the Borg. Your laundress will be assimilated to service us.”
Perhaps they recycle the funky Borg into Soylent Green? Damned dirty….er….Borgs!
Nice Charleton Heston rif from Soylent Green to Planet of the Borg, er, Apes 🙂
Well the Borg ARE kind of greenish looking, so I don’t think they could pass for Soylent Red, or Soylent Yellow….although they could just be a bit off around the edges. I may need to go to increasingly vague references to see if you keep up!
Finding this amusing: Check
I guess you succeeded! 😉
On behalf of my folded and shrink-wrapped laundry I thank you 🙂
I must say that I have just started in a Darkness Forged in Fire and it’s the first book I’m reading (and will actually finish) for fun in years. Just finished my Bachelor in Conflict Studies and when I read its reviews saying it was a nice blend of fantasy and military I bought it immediately.
I love it til thus far (am now at chapter 31 I believe) and can’t wait to get my hands on the second part!
Hope you visit The Netherlands some time!
Conflict Studies sounds incredibly interesting. Did you focus on a specific time period in particular? I did my Masters in History, but specialized in military history. It was just a natural progression that when I finally started writing I knew my fantasy would have a strong military component.
Glad your enjoying the book. I haven’t been to the Netherlands since 2006 and would love to go back. It’s an amazing country and I always have a great time when I’m there.
No one focusses more on various theories in relation to conflicts. Like f.e. the mobilisation theory, power theory, protracted social conflict theory, etc.
I’m mostly interested in the more contemporary ones and focussed on SEA as I studied in Thailand for 8 months. For my thesis, for example, I focussed on the threshold the Thai Red Shirts crossed towards the use of violence. I’ve done this studies in combination with several psychological theories on group dynamics and individual/group behaviour, like Milgram’s.
I started off with a Religion studies, but gradually shifted towards Conflict Studies. Now I can use my Religion knowledge to better understand how it is used as a tool in the various struggles across the world.
Anyway as you can see I’m quite enthusiastic about my studies. I hope to start the Master Conflict Studies and Human Rights next September.
I can definitely understand why you made a combination of military and fantasy elements. It works! (I’m now at chapter 44)
That sounds really fascinating. And the combination of conflict studies with religion seems perfect, more so than ever with the rise of extremism around the world and here in the US too.
Best of luck in your Masters!
