A winter wonderland…almost

I saw two snowflakes earlier today between 82nd and 81st street on the east side. I had hoped they were advance scouts for an army of fellow flakes, but alas, thus far it remains those two alone. This is when being of faith would come in handy, but pray as I might no additional flakes (of the cold and snowy variety) have yet to materialize. I remember when I was a kid growing up in Canada. We lived near Owen Sound for a while and that has got to be where every weather system dumps its excess snow. We would get so much snow we would miss school for days in a row. The really cool bit was that come spring we’d miss a few more days because of flooding. Come to think of it, this explains a few gaps in my education.

Sounds wonderful. We’ve got rain here and it feels like bloody spring. Just a couple of days ago we were a couple of flakes away from a snowy paradise and now this.

Heh. We had a minor sortie of flakes up here in Massachusetts — enough to leave white blotches on the grass and other cold spots. Today it’s so cold it brings to mind proverbs about brass monkeys and witch anatomy. Tomorrow it’s supposed to warm up 40 degrees and rain. I cannot figure out this weather.

I know, crazy weather here as well. I was out running last night and it was so warm it really felt more like late spring. It looked like about 90% of the runners overdressed because Monday night had been below freezing. Very extreme changes.

It turned even warmer than predicted, didn’t it? But today it’s pretty normal winter weather for us — 37F and rain. It’s predicted to be an ice storm not far north of us. I hope it stays north of us. Snow is one thing. Ice — not so much…

It was nearly 70 degrees here yesterday. Gah. I want snow. I used to live in P.A. and snow every winter was a given, but down here in the South it’s hit or miss. I think a trip to the mountains is in order this winter just so I can get my snow fix. 😉
